Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from that period of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, comprising in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved service.

He came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, took control to force a decider.

He saved 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he earned the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
